‘Tis the season of giving, and this December, Northampton Community College (NCC) student-athletes spread holiday cheer by participating in service to their college and community.
Members of the NCC men’s basketball and baseball teams donated their time to assist with transporting items and setting-up for the annual holiday bazaar, something the student-athletes like to do each year whenever possible. The teams also collected nonperishable food items to help stock both the Bethlehem and Monroe Food Pantries on each campus this season. These efforts contributed to making their peers’ holidays brighter this year.
The baseball team also visited the YMCA in Allentown and donated their time to help clean locker rooms, paint walls and ceilings, clean an outdoor play area, and relocate supplies to various areas throughout their complex. This alleviated the stress of staff and resources shortages and allowed the YMCA to focus on improving their offerings and meeting the needs of their members and the community.
“We always appreciate the opportunity to give back to our campus – to our community – and feel our student-athletes and coaches do a nice job of embracing and answering that call to serve,” said Adrian Yaguez, associate director of athletics at NCC.
“The wins and losses take care of themselves — this is bigger than that — and our culture of embracing community service and leading by example is all part of the overall student-athlete experience that we strive for each year. I’m extremely proud of these efforts with more to come in 2022.”
