Tuesday, September 26, 2023 – History of Hispanics in the Lehigh Valley – 11:00 am to 12:15 pm in CC 220. Latinos were first attracted to the Lehigh Valley in 1923 when labor recruiters from the bustling Bethlehem Steel Corporation went to Mexico to look for workers willing to come north. 948 Mexican men and women agreed to come to Bethlehem by rail. Today, Latinos in the Lehigh Valley are a racially and economically diverse group of people, including Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Mexicans, Cubans, and Central and South Americans, and their presence is impossible to miss.
